CMPS: Vote on Proposed Membership Dues Change by April 24th
Dear CMPS Member,
On behalf of the volunteer Board of the Central Mountains and Plains Section (CMPS) of The Wildlife Society, we appreciate all you are doing for wildlife. The amazing wildlife and ecosystems we have across Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming would not be here without incredibly dedicated people like you.
OUR ASK OF YOU: As a member of CMPS, we are asking you to vote on a proposal to increase our revenue stream so that we can continue to meet our mission and serve members just like you.
ABOUT CMPS: At CMPS, our Board works with the 7 state chapters to promote the principles, policies, and objectives of The Wildlife Society. We work to elevate successes, bring science to decision-making, build connections across our region, and help support the next generation of wildlife professionals. Wildlife management challenges often extend across state lines, which is why a regional body like CMPS is helpful. However, the cost of being a resource is increasing, and we need your help.
WHAT CMPS DID IN 2022 & FUNDING CHALLENGES: CMPS awarded 13 Wayne Sandfort Student Travel Grants and supported numerous TWS trainings and workshops. The funding requests for student travel grants alone totaled $8,500, CMPS met $3,100 of this need following two years of pandemic hiatus. Our estimated total annual income is only $1,800. We need additional funds in order to continue supporting student travel to the TWS Conference, offering awards to recognize achievements in conservation, sponsoring wildlife conferences and trainings, and annual operating expenses.
WHAT WE’RE PROPOSING: To help address this funding gap, CMPS is proposing a small increase in annual dues when members register through the TWS portal for CMPS as a stand-alone selection. The current rate is $1 per year for all membership types; it has been in place since 2006 and is the same amount dues were in 1956. We are asking members to step up and help by giving $5 for CMPS membership as a stand-alone through the TWS portal.
Everyone who is a member of one of the state chapters within CMPS (Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming) is automatically a CMPS member because $1 of those dues goes to CMPS. CMPS dues from the state chapters will remain the same.
