A message from Ross:
Hello,
Although it’s hard for me to advocate for myself, this video will let NDTWS members see a little of my artwork world. North Dakota and so many of my friends there have long supported my art endeavors and I am so grateful for that.
[Some background information on this Prairie Pulse episode] I’m not sure how I ended-up on Prairie Public … must’ve been a very slow winter for stories! I went to Ecuador in 2019 on a birding expedition with a British group (met the husband-wife team that lead these trips) on another trip Leela and I were on in Estonia in 2018. On that trip I was lucky enough to see 33 of Ecuador’s 164 hummingbird spp. When I got home, I decided to paint those 33 spp. I paint them when I’m in a “slow period” for commission and donation or just on a whim. I’ve painted 20 so far. They have been a fun challenge as capturing the bright and iridescent colors is really difficult with transparent watercolors. I’m unsure what I will do with the 33 watercolors when I complete the project but certainly would love to exhibit them. There are so many cool names for the many hummingbirds in Central and South America. Some examples are Shining Sunbeams, Swordbills, Sapphire Wings, Metaltails, Violetears, Incas, Gems and Hillstars.
All the best now as Spring energy kicks into full force!
