Standard Operating Procedures
President
The President has general supervision of the Chapter Officers, and with the advice of the Executive Board, appoints the Chairs of all regular and special committees. The President presides as Chair during meetings of the Executive Board. Prep work for meetings includes selecting time, date, and place and preparing the agenda for the meeting. The President is also an ex officio member of all committees except the Nominations and Elections committee. Other duties include working with the secretary and working groups to coordinate writing, signing, and sending correspondence. During legislative years, the president oversees lobbying efforts including contracts, weekly check-ins, and all other administrative tasks related to lobbying. The President’s Portfolio consists of Secretary, Treasurer, Natural Resources Trust Advisor, Resolutions and Public Statements*, Legislative*, Finance, Student Liaison, Education & Outreach*.

President-Elect
The President-Elect shall assume the duties of the President in the absence or upon the inability of the President to serve and shall perform any duties assigned by the President. In the event the President-Elect cannot serve in the President’s absence, the Executive Board shall appoint a President, pro tempore. The President-Elect is expected to attend quarterly Board meetings and any special meetings called by the President. This officer shall preside over the Awards, Bylaws, Communications, ND Action Group, and Professional Women in Natural Resources Committees.
Past-President
The past president is the last Executive Position of the President and serves as an advisor to the acting President of the Chapter. The Past-President is a full voting member of the Executive Board and is expected to attend all Board meetings and any special meeting called by the President, as well as supporting policies put forth by the membership and Board. This position is also responsible for promoting interest to the Chapter members, active participation for Board Positions, and various responsibilities with the Chapter’s standing committees.
Treasurer
The Treasurer’s primary responsibilities include managing cash flow, paying bills, handling bank accounts and reconciling statements, processing income and expenses, preparing the annual budget, and ensuring necessary State and Federal reports are submitted. The North Dakota Chapter of The Wildlife Society (NDCTWS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Accordingly, we raise funds to carry out our mission and goals. Our bylaws state the need for a Treasurer to manage the everyday activities of the NDCTWS’s finances. All accounting is recorded using QuickBooks.
Secretary
The Secretary is appointed by the President and approved by the Executive Board. The secretary serves a one-year term, which may be extended if all parties (Secretary and Executive Board) are in support. Duties include keeping up to date on all correspondence sent and received (mail and email), maintaining Chapter files, recoding meeting minutes, managing annual meeting registration, and acting as a liaison between TWS National and CMPS chapter as needed.
Executive Board Member
As an Executive Board Member, you are expected to regularly attend and actively participate in quarterly board meetings and other special meetings as needed. You should act as a liaison between the chapter and your employer’s organization on relevant issues and solicit engagement from fellow colleagues and current members. You will also be assigned a working group to oversee and provide updates on to the rest of the board. Finally, you are encouraged to be involved with other chapter activities including, but not limited to, serving on the annual meeting planning committee, hosting special events or workshops, assisting with fundraising, or otherwise taking ownership of chapter needs.
